The Malformed Infant and Child: An Illustrated Guide (1983) is one of the finest medical books ever written. It is as unique and relevant today as it was when it was first published more than 35 years ago.
The book contains monographs with exquisitely accurate and informative drawings of various congenital malformations including environmental (toxic) syndromes, developmental defects and genetics syndromes, from the more common fetal alcohol syndrome to the much rarer Lesch–Nyhan syndrome or Kartagener syndrome.
Unfortunately, because of copyright concerns I’m not able to publish any sample illustrations here (except for what’s on the cover of the book). But you should trust me on this: the drawings are incredibly and uncommonly good. The book has been out of print for years, but it can be purchased on the secondary market for approximately five U.S. dollars–a steal!
I highly recommend this book to all medical students and to all trainees and practitioners in the fields of pediatrics, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, medical genetics, pediatric nursing and genetic counseling. The Malformed Infant and Child: An Illustrated Guide is—without a doubt—one of the best medical books of all time!
